One of Twitch’s biggest streamers, ‘Asmongold’, has announced that he is taking a break from the platform despite a strong start viewership-wise to 2021. In an initial tweet, the World of Warcraft streamer says that he is “indefinitely” going on a Twitch hiatus, but after a lot of chatter within his community, he clarifies that he is definitely “not quitting” streaming.
Asmongold also estimates that his break will last “a month or so” – a considerable amount of time for one of Twitch’s top streamers to be out of action. However, this is not the first time Asmongold has taken an extended break from streaming, with his most recent lasting over three months between December 2019 and April 2020. Since returning from that break, Asmongold has seen some of his highest viewership on Twitch thanks to WoW’s Shadowlands expansion and his recent coverage of Race to World First for the Castle Nathria raid.
2020 also saw Asmongold launch OTK, a content creation and esports team, alongside fellow streamers such as Matthew ‘Mizkif’ Rinaudo and ‘Esfand’.
Asmongold did not give a specific reason why he is taking a break from Twitch, saying that there is “too much to list out in a tweet.” However, he does dispels rumours that it’s because of either his chat or the recent Rust trend.

Over the last 12 months, Asmongold has racked up over 55 million hours of watch time on Twitch, according to Twitch Tracker, and his streams are watched by an average audience of 43,000.
